Zād al-MaʿādIbn al-Qayyim

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
From Him we seek help.

All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all worlds. The final outcome belongs to the God-fearing, and there is no hostility except against wrongdoers. There is no god but Allah, the God of the first and the last, the Sustainer of the heavens and the earths, and the Master of the Day of Judgment. There is no success except in obeying Him, no honor except in humbling oneself before His majesty, no richness except in acknowledging one’s need for His mercy, no guidance except in seeking guidance by His light, no life except in His good pleasure, and no bliss except in nearness to Him. The heart can neither be sound nor prosper except through sincere devotion to Him and undivided love for Him. When He is obeyed, He responds with appreciation; when He is disobeyed, He accepts repentance and forgives; when He is called upon, He answers; and when one deals with Him, He rewards.

All praise belongs to Allah, whose creatures all bear witness to His lordship, whose handiwork all acknowledges His divinity, and whose creation testifies that He is Allah, besides whom there is no god, through the wonders of His workmanship and the marvelous signs He has placed within it. Glory and praise be to Allah, in a measure equal to the number of His creatures, His own satisfaction, the weight of His Throne, and the ink of His words. There is no god but Allah alone, who has no partner in His divinity, just as He has no partner in His lordship; and none resembles Him in His essence, His acts, or His attributes (1).

Allah is the Greatest, great beyond measure; abundant praise belongs to Allah; and glory be to Allah morning and evening. Glory be to Him whom the heavens and their angels glorify, as do the stars and their orbits, the earth and its inhabitants, the seas and their fish, the stars, mountains, trees, beasts, hills, and sands—everything moist and dry, and everything living and dead:

“The seven heavens, the earth, and all those within them glorify Him
