them and said, “Who are you?” They replied (1), “We are Muslims. And who are you?” He replied, “The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.” A woman then lifted her young child towards him from a litter (2) and asked, “O Messenger of Allah, does Hajj count for this child?” He said, “Yes, and you will have a reward” (3).
When he reached Dhū al-Hulayfah, he spent the night there. When he saw Medina, he proclaimed Allah’s greatness three times and said:
“There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion, and His is all praise, and He has power over all things. We return, repenting, worshipping and prostrating, praising our Lord. Allah has fulfilled His promise, granted victory to His servant, and defeated the confederates alone” (4).
He then entered Medina by day via the route of al-Mu‘arras, having departed via the route of al-Shajarah (5). And Allah knows best.

On Errors
Among these is an error made by Abū Muhammad ibn Hazm in The Farewell Pilgrimage (6), where he stated that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, informed the people at the time of his departure that an umrah in Ramadan is equivalent to a Hajj.
