the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Its wording is: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) combined ‘umrah with Hajj during the Farewell Hajj and brought sacrificial animals, driving them with him from Dhū al-Hulayfah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began by entering the state of consecration for ‘umrah, then entered it for Hajj. The people likewise combined ‘umrah with Hajj alongside the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Some brought sacrificial animals, driving them along with them, while others brought none. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in [Mecca] (1), he said to the people, ‘Whoever among you has brought sacrificial animals must continue to observe all the restrictions of consecration until he completes his Hajj. Whoever has not brought sacrificial animals should circumambulate the House, go between al-Safā and al-Marwah, shorten his hair, and leave the state of consecration. Al-A‘mash narrated from Ibrāhīm, from ‘Ā’ishah: “We set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), speaking of nothing but Hajj. When we arrived, he instructed us to leave the state of consecration ...” He then related the hadith (4).
