As for the first hadith—the report of al-Zuhrī from ‘Urwah, from ‘Ā’ishah—an error was made in it by ‘Abd al-Malik ibn Shu‘ayb, his father Shu‘ayb, his grandfather al-Layth, or his teacher ‘Uqayl. For Mālik, Ma‘mar, and others narrated this hadith from al-Zuhrī, from ‘Urwah, from her, and made clear that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed those who had no sacrificial animals with them to leave the state of consecration after circumambulating the House and going between al-Safā and al-Marwah:
Mālik narrated from Yahyā ibn Sa‘īd, from ‘Amrah, from her: “We set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when five nights remained of Dhū al-Qa‘dah, intending nothing but Hajj. As we approached Mecca, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed those who had no sacrificial animals with them to leave the state of consecration after circumambulating the House and going between al-Safā and al-Marwah.” He then related the hadith. Yahyā said: “I mentioned this hadith to al-Qāsim ibn Muhammad, and he said, ‘By Allah, she has conveyed the hadith to you accurately’” (1).
Mansūr narrated from Ibrāhīm, from al-Aswad, from her: “We set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), intending nothing but Hajj. When we arrived, we circumambulated the House. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed those who had not brought sacrificial animals to leave the state of consecration, and they did so. His wives had not brought sacrificial animals, so they too left the state of consecration” (2).
Mālik and Ma‘mar both narrated from Ibn Shihāb, from ‘Urwah, from her: “We set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the year of the Farewell Hajj and entered the state of consecration for ‘umrah. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘Whoever has sacrificial animals with him should enter the state of consecration for Hajj along with ‘umrah, and should not leave that state until he has completed both’” (3).
Ibn Shihāb also narrated from ‘Urwah, from her, a report similar to what Sālim had related to him from his father, from
