“No one after us was permitted to convert his Hajj into ‘umrah. It was a concession granted to us, the Companions of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him.”
Al-Bazzār said (1): Yūsuf ibn Mūsā narrated to us; Salamah ibn al-Fadl narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Ishāq narrated to us, from ‘Abd al-Rahmān al-Asadī, from Yazīd ibn Sharīk: “We asked Abū Dharr, ‘How did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, perform tamattu‘ while you were with him?’ He replied, ‘What business is that of yours? That was simply something we were granted a concession to do’”—meaning tamattu‘.
Al-Bazzār said (2): Yūsuf ibn Mūsā narrated to us; ‘Ubayd Allāh ibn Mūsā narrated to us; Isrā’īl narrated to us, from Ibrāhīm ibn al-Muhājir, from Abū Bakr al-Taymī (3), from his father and al-Hārith ibn Suwayd, who both said: “Abū Dharr said concerning Hajj and tamattu‘: ‘It was a concession granted to us by the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.’”
Abū Dāwūd said (4): Hannād ibn al-Sarī narrated to us, from Ibn Abī Zā’idah; Muhammad ibn Ishāq informed us, from ‘Abd al-Rahmān ibn al-Aswad, from Sulaymān (5) or Sulaym ibn al-Aswad, that Abū Dharr used to say concerning someone who (6) undertook Hajj and then converted it into ‘umrah: “That was only for the travelling party who were with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.”
