perform two circumambulations or two walks between al-Safā and al-Marwah are ‘Ā’ishah’s words: “As for those who combined Hajj and ‘umrah, they performed only one circumambulation.” This is reported by both al-Bukhārī and Muslim (1). Also, Jābir’s words: “The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and his Companions performed only one walk between al-Safā and al-Marwah—his first walk.” This is reported by Muslim (2). Also, his words to ‘Ā’ishah: “Your walk between al-Safā and al-Marwah suffices for both your Hajj and your ‘umrah.” This is reported by Muslim (3). In Abū Dāwūd’s narration (4), he told her: “Your circumambulation of the House and your walk between al-Safā and al-Marwah suffice for both your Hajj and your ‘umrah.” He also told her (5), in the hadith reported by both al-Bukhārī and Muslim (6), after she had circumambulated the Ka‘bah and walked between al-Safā and al-Marwah: “You have now ended your state of ihrām for both your Hajj and your ‘umrah.”
He said (7): All the Companions who reported the pilgrimage of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, related that, after they had circumambulated the House and walked between al-Safā and al-Marwah, he instructed them to end their state of ihrām, except those who had brought sacrificial animals with them. Such a person does not (8) leave the state of ihrām until (9) the Day of Sacrifice. None of them reported that any of them performed a circumambulation and a walk, then another circumambulation and another walk. It is well known that people would have had ample interest and motivation to report something of this kind. Since none of the Companions reported it, it is clear that it did not happen.
