As for the hadith of ‘Imrān ibn Husayn, it is among the reports in which Muhammad ibn Yahyā al-Azdī erred: he narrated it from memory and made a mistake, although he had narrated it correctly several times. It is said that he retracted his mention of circumambulation and sa‘y (walking between al-Safā and al-Marwah) (1).
Imam Ahmad, al-Tirmidhī, and Ibn Hibbān (2) in his Sahīh narrated through al-Darāwardī, from ‘Ubayd Allāh ibn ‘Umar, from Nāfi‘, from Ibn ‘Umar, who reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever combines his Hajj and ‘umrah, a single circumambulation suffices for both.” Al-Tirmidhī’s wording is: “Whoever enters ihram for Hajj and ‘umrah, a single circumambulation and a single sa‘y suffice for both (3), until he comes out of ihram for both together” (4).
In the two Sahīhs (5), ‘Ā’ishah reported: We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for the Farewell Pilgrimage and entered ihram for ‘umrah. He then said: “Whoever has a sacrificial animal with him should enter ihram for Hajj and ‘umrah, and should not come out of ihram until he completes both.” Those who had entered ihram for ‘umrah performed tawāf (the ritual circuit), then came out of ihram. They then performed another tawāf after returning from Minā. As for those who combined Hajj and ‘umrah, they performed only one tawāf.
It is authentically reported (6) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to ‘Ā’ishah: “Indeed, your circumambulation of the House and your walking between al-Safā
