Question: Your Eminence, there is no doubt that you are aware that the religious condition of the Ummah is a bitter one: widespread ignorance of the creed and its articles, divisions over methodology, and a neglect of carrying the Islamic daʿwah to most corners of the earth in keeping with the original creed and the first path by which this community was set aright. This painful reality has surely stirred zeal among the sincere and a desire to change it and rectify the defects; yet they have differed over how to do so because their doctrinal and methodological backgrounds vary—as you know—owing to the multiplicity of partisan Islamic movements and groups that have claimed, for decades, to reform the Muslim Ummah. They have not, however, been granted success; on the contrary, these movements have brought about trials, calamities, and great misfortunes for the community because their methodologies and beliefs run counter to the command of the Messenger ﷺ and what he brought. This has left Muslims—especially the youth—deeply confused about how to address the current situation. A Muslim caller who clings to the Prophetic path and follows the way of the believers, as embodied in the understanding of the Companions and the scholars who succeeded them with excellence, may thus feel that he bears an enormous trust with respect to this state of affairs.
