We are, regrettably, living through a calamity that has struck the Muslims—one for which history knows no equal: the concerted assault of the unbelievers upon the Muslim community. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) foretold this in his well-known, rigorously authenticated hadith: “The nations will soon call one another against you just as diners invite one another to their dish.” They asked, “Will we be few in number on that day, O Messenger of Allah?” He replied, “No; on that day you will be many, but you will be like the froth carried by a flood. Allah will surely remove from the hearts of your enemy any fear of you, and He will cast weakness into your hearts.” They asked, “What is that weakness, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “Love of the world and hatred of death.” (1)
