Therefore, any political activism undertaken in a Muslim society that is not governed by the divine Law will, before those two pivotal tasks have been fulfilled, yield harmful consequences. In a country where the Law is upheld, however, sincere counsel (nasiha) replaces political action: it is offered through consultation or expressed in the most appropriate manner, within legal limits, avoiding the language of compulsion or public denunciation. Simply delivering the message establishes the proof and clears one’s conscience.
Among the forms of such counsel is to engage people in what truly benefits them—rectifying their creed, acts of worship, conduct, and financial dealings.
Some might imagine that we seek to realize comprehensive purification and education across the entire Muslim community. We do not entertain—nor even dream of—such a goal, for it is impossible to achieve. Allah says in the Noble Quran, “Had your Lord willed, He could have made all people a single community, but they will not cease to differ” (Hud 11:118). This divine statement will only find fulfillment in their case once they understand Islam correctly and cultivate themselves, their families, and those around them upon this sound Islam.
