- The second manuscript: the Berlin copy.
It is kept in the Berlin Library as part of miscellany no. 2094. Within that volume al-Ṣawāʿiq is the first treatise, followed by half a page of grammatical notes, after which comes the author’s al-Risālah al-Tabūkīyah (fols. 100b–113b).
The manuscript comprises 97 folios, running from 3b to 100a. It is of medium format; each page contains 23 lines, with an average of thirteen words per line.
Its title reads: “Kitāb al-Ṣawāʿiq al-Mursalah ʿalā Firaq al-Muʿtazilah wa’l-Jahmiyyah wa’l-Muʿaṭṭilah, composed by the shaykh, the imām, the erudite scholar, champion of the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (Allah bless him and grant him peace), Shams al-Dīn Abū ʿAbd Allāh Muḥammad, son of the righteous shaykh Abū Bakr ibn Ayyūb, Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah [sic].” In the margin one finds the note: “It is also called al-Ṣawāʿiq al-Mursalah ʿalā Firaq al-Bidʿ al-Mutaʾawwilah.”
The copy opens with the very beginning of the book and closes with the words: “Reflect on their statements and you will know which of the two parties accords with reason, and who has departed from its plain dictates! Success is by Allah’s grace.” Hence it preserves only about one-third of the text that is now extant.
The scribe neither gives his name nor the date of copying, though he does employ the catchword system. There are no ownership notes or endowment stamps on the manuscript.
That it was collated against its exemplar is shown by the scribe’s statement at the end: “Collation completed—praise be to Allah—according to the extent of one’s ability,” as well as by the corrected insertions found in the margins of several folios. This copy is more accurate than the Aleppo manuscript, yet it too has not been spared—

نسخة محفوظة في مكتبة برلين ضمن مجموع رقم ٢٠٩٤، «الصواعق» هي الرسالة الأولى في المجموع، ثم يليها فوائد نحوية في نصف صفحة، ثم «الرسالة التبوكية» للمصنف (ق ١٠٠ ب-١١٣ ب).
تقع في ٩٧ ورقة، من ٣ ب إلى ١٠٠ أ، من الحجم المتوسط، مسطرتها ٢٣ سطرًا، متوسط عدد الكلمات في السطر ثلاث عشرة كلمة.
عنوانها: «كتاب الصَّواعق المرسلة على فرق المعتزلة والجهميَّة والمعطِّلة تصنيف الشيخ الإمام العالم العلَّامة الذاب عن كتاب الله وسنة رسوله ﷺ شمس الدِّين أبي عبد الله محمد بن الشَّيخ الصَّالح أبي بكر بن أيوب ابن القيِّم الجوزيَّة [كذا]». وكتب على الحاشية: «ويقال الصواعق المرسلة على فرق البدع المتأولة».
أولها: أول الكتاب.
وآخرها: «وتأمَّلْ أقوالهم تعلمْ أيَّ النوعين معه العقل، ومن الذي خرج عن صريحه! وبالله التوفيق». فهي تمثل قرابة ثلث الموجود من الكتاب فقط.
ولم يذكر اسم الناسخ ولا تاريخ النسخ، واتبع الناسخ نظام التعقيبة.
وليس على النسخة تملّكات ولا وقفيات.
وهذه النسخة مقابلة على أصلها، يدل على ذلك قول الناسخ آخرها: «بلغ بحمد الله مقابلة حسب الطاقة». وكذلك وجود اللحوقات المصححة على حواشي بعض أوراقها، وهذه النسخة أصح من نسخة حلب، ولم تسلم
