We have cited these passages—which are but a drop from a vast ocean—so that anyone who studies them may realize that no sane descendant of Adam could possibly picture from them a being who has a single side with numerous hands attached to it, one leg, one face, yet many eyes. These are the verses of the Qur’an and the reports of the Sunnah, as you can see; does any rational person (1)—or anyone with the slightest grasp—understand from them what this Jahmite has alleged?
Whoever values the revealed texts so little is truly unfit to accept anything from them; he will obtain from them neither guidance nor knowledge. For such a person they are, as Allah the Exalted has said: “We send down in the Qur’an that which is a healing and a mercy for the believers, but it increases the wrongdoers only in loss” (Al-Isrāʾ 17:82); and His saying: “Whenever a sūrah is revealed, some of them ask, ‘Which of you has this increased in faith?’ As for those who believe, it increases them in faith and they rejoice, whereas those in whose hearts is a sickness—it adds defilement to their defilement” (At-Tawbah 9:125-126) ⦗Q 11 b⦘; and His saying: “Say, ‘It is, for those who believe, guidance and a cure; but those who do not believe—in their ears is deafness and it is blindness for them; they are being called from a far-off place’” (Fussilat 41:43); and His saying: “By it He leads many astray and by it He guides many, yet He leads none astray by it except the defiantly sinful” (Al-Baqarah 2:25) (2).
Allah knows that this is one of the gravest affronts to the texts, a denigration and slur against the One who spoke them (3) and the one who conveyed them (4). It may be said to him: this is the plain and inescapable implication of your words.
So look at the ugliest anthropomorphism and analogy that they claim to be the apparent meaning of the texts, and
