—made it clear that the work was originally arranged in two volumes, for in the margin of folio 92 of this copy I found the note: “First topic of the second volume.”
I likewise found the historian Ibrāhīm ibn Ṣāliḥ ibn ʿĪsā al-Najdī writing in a letter to Shaykh ʿAbd Allāh ibn Khalaf al-Duhayyān: “As for the volume we told your excellency had passed out of our hands—one of the volumes of al-Ṣawāʿiq—it is a small quarto, the script is of medium size, and it bears no corrections. It is the first volume. I have not yet seen al-Ṣawāʿiq in its entirety, nor have I laid eyes on any other volume of it, and I do not know how many volumes it comprises. In the biographical notices of Ibn al-Qayyim that I possess, whenever his writings are mentioned they say: ‘He also authored a book entitled al-Ṣawāʿiq, in several volumes.’” ⦗1⦘
