We therefore do not reject taʾwīl (interpretation); indeed, the very substance of knowledge is taʾwīl, and those firmly grounded in knowledge are its true people. Yet which of the two interpretations do we mean? We are the happier because we employ the interpretive taʾwīl that elucidates, whereas others are the more wretched for adopting the taʾwīl that distorts. Allah alone grants success in reaching what is right.
