and al-Dāwūdī in Ṭabaqāt al-Mufassirīn 2/96, Ibn Badrān in Munādamat al-Aṭlāl p. 241, Siddīq Ḥasan Khān in Abjad al-ʿUlūm 3/140, al-Shattī in Mukhtaṣar Ṭabaqāt al-Ḥanābila p. 69, and Kahāla in Muʿjam al-Muʾallifīn 3/165.
Fourth: al-Ṣawāʿiq al-Mursala ʿalā Firaq al-Muʿtazila wa-l-Jahmiyya al-Muʿaṭṭila ("The Unleashed Thunderbolts against the Muʿtazilite and Jahmite Negators"). This is the wording found in the Berlin manuscript, and in its margin is written: It is also called al-Ṣawāʿiq al-Mursala ʿalā Firaq al-Bidaʿ al-Mutaʾawwila ("The Unleashed Thunderbolts against the sects of interpretative innovation").
Fifth: al-Ṣawāʿiq al-Munzala ʿalā al-Ṭāʾifa al-Jahmiyya wa-l-Muʿaṭṭila ("The Sent-Down Thunderbolts upon the Jahmite and Negator faction"). This is the form that appears in the Aleppo manuscript, and it is likewise the title given by Kahāla in Muʿjam al-Muʾallifīn 3/165.
In my judgment, the first title is the most reliable, the most famous, and the one most frequently cited in the sources; accordingly, I have adopted it.
