A Concise Statement of the Orthodox Position on Allah’s Attributes:

The all-embracing rule in this entire field is that Allah is to be described only with what He has described Himself, or with what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has described Him, and with what the earliest generation of believers affirmed for Him—never exceeding the Qur’an and the hadith.

Imam Ahmad—may Allah have mercy on him—said: “Allah is not to be described except with what He has described Himself, or with what His Messenger ﷺ has described Him; one must not go beyond the Qur’an and the hadith.”

The creed of the salaf is to affirm for Allah whatever He affirmed for Himself and whatever His Messenger ﷺ affirmed for Him, without distortion or denial, and without delving into how or likening Him to the creation.
