The Statement of Imām Ibn Khafīf and the Companions’ Consensus on the Fundamentals of the Religion:
Imām Abū ʿAbd Allāh Muḥammad ibn Khafīf said in his book, which he entitled The Creed of Monotheism: Affirming the Divine Names and Attributes. At the end of his preface he declared:
“The words of the Emigrants and the Helpers were unanimous—without divergence—concerning the oneness of God, their recognition of His names, attributes, and decree. Their voice was one, their legal path manifest. They are the ones who conveyed this from the Messenger of God ﷺ until he said, ‘Hold fast to my sunnah,’ and he quoted the entire ḥadīth, together with the ḥadīth, ‘May God curse whoever innovates a matter or shelters an innovator.’”
