Shaykh al-Islam, Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad ibn Taymiyyah, was asked—[this took place in the year 698 AH; a series of events and trials arose because of the answer, and it is an answer of immense benefit]—so the questioner said:

“What is your view regarding the verses that deal with the divine attributes, such as His statement—Exalted is He—‘The All-Merciful—upon the Throne…’”
