[The words of ʿAbbād ibn al-ʿAwwām al-Wāsiṭī]:

ʿAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad transmitted from ʿAbbād ibn al-ʿAwwām al-Wāsiṭī— the leading scholar of Wāsiṭ and an elder contemporary of al-Shāfiʿī and Aḥmad—who said, “I debated Bishr al-Murīsī and Bishr’s adherents, and I found that the end of all their talk is to say, ‘There is nothing in the heaven.’”
