Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami said: “Those who taught us the Qur’an—Uthman ibn Affan, Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud, and others—told us that whenever they learned ten verses from the Prophet ﷺ, they would not move on until they had understood whatever knowledge and duties those verses contained. They said: ‘So we learned the Qur’an together with knowledge and practice, all at once.’”
