It is also narrated from him (may Allah be pleased with him) that when he was asked about the Harūriyya, he replied, “I do not know what the Harūriyya are. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: ‘A people will emerge in this Ummah’—he did not say, ‘from it’—‘and you will consider your prayers insignificant compared with theirs. They will recite the Quran, but it will not pass beyond their throats. They will pass out of the religion just as an arrow passes through its quarry’” (1).
Narrated by al-Bukhārī.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded that the Kharijites be fought and explained that whoever kills them will be rewarded. This demonstrates the corruption of this group, how far removed it is from Islam, and the immense harm it causes the Ummah by stirring up turmoil and unrest.
In the two Sahih collections, Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
“Toward the end of time, a people will emerge who are young in age and foolish in mind. They will utter some of the finest words people say, yet their faith will not pass beyond their throats. They will pass out of the religion just as an arrow passes through its quarry. Wherever you encounter them, kill them, for on the Day of Resurrection whoever kills them will be rewarded” (2).
Imam al-Bukhārī said: “Ibn Umar regarded them as the worst of Allah’s creation. He said: ‘They took verses revealed concerning the disbelievers and applied them to the believers’” (3).
