Ashrat al-Saah - al-WabilYusuf al-Wabil

First, regarding the hadith of Abd Allah ibn Amr, al-Hāfiz Ibn Hajar said: “Its attribution to the Prophet is not established.” As for the hadith of Imrān ibn Husayn, “It has no basis.” (1)

As for the hadith, “The sun and the moon are clothed with light and radiance ...” and so forth, al-Qurtubī cited no chain of transmission for it. Even assuming its authenticity, their return to their former state does not prove that the door of repentance will be opened again.

Al-Hāfiz also stated that he had found a decisive text settling this dispute: the hadith of Abd Allah ibn Amr concerning the sun rising from the west. It states: “From that day until the Day of Resurrection, ‘no soul will benefit from its faith if it had not believed before’ ...” to the end of the verse. (2)

(1) *Fath al-Bārī* (11/354). (2) *Fath al-Bārī* (13/88). Al-Hāfiz stated that it was narrated by al-Tabarānī and al-Hākim. I searched for it in the relevant sections of al-Hākim’s *al-Mustadrak* but could not find it.
