after me a landslide in the east, a landslide in the west, and a landslide in the Arabian Peninsula.” I asked, “O Messenger of Allah! Will the earth sink while righteous people are upon it?” The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, replied, “When its people commit much wickedness.” (1)

Have These Landslides Occurred?

These three landslides have not yet occurred, like the other major signs, none of which has yet appeared. Some scholars hold that they have already occurred, as al-Sharīf al-Barzanjī maintained (2), but the correct view is that none of them has occurred to date. Some landslides have occurred in various places and at widely separated times, but those are among the minor signs of the Hour.

As for these three landslides, they will be immense and widespread, affecting many regions of the earth in the east, the west, and the Arabian Peninsula.

Ibn Hajar said, “Landslides have occurred in various places, but the three landslides may refer to something exceeding what has already occurred—something greater in geographical extent or magnitude.” (3)

This is supported by the hadith stating that they will occur only when wickedness becomes prevalent among people and sins spread widely among them. Allah knows best.

بعدي خسفٌ بالمشرق، وخسفٌ بالمغرب، وخسفٌ في جزيرة العرب". قلت: يا رسول الله! أَيُخْسَفُ بالأرض وفيها الصالحون؟ قال لها رسول الله ﷺ: "إذا أكثر أهلها الخبث" (١). * هل وقعت هذه الخسوفات؟ وهذه الخسوفات الثّلاثة لم تقع بعدُ؛ كغيرها من الأشراط الكبرى الّتي لم يظهر شيءٌ منها، وإن كان بعض العلماء يرى أنّها قد وقعت كما ذهب إلى ذلك الشريف البرزنجي (٢)، ولكنَّ الصّحيح انه لم يحدث شيء منها إلى الآن، وإنّما وقع بعض الخسوفات في أماكن متفرِّقة، وفي أزمان متباعدة، وذلك من أشراط السّاعة الصغرى. أمّا هذه الخسوفات الثّلاثة، فتكون عظيمة وعامة لأماكن كثيرة من الأرض في مشارقها ومغاربها وفي جزيرة العرب. قال ابن حجر: "وقد وجد الخسف في مواضع، ولكن يحتمل أن يكون المراد بالخسوف الثّلاثة قدرًا زائدًا على ما وُجد، كأن يكون أعظم منه مكانًا أو قدرًا" (٣). ويؤيد هذا ما جاء في الحديث أنّها إنّما تقع إذا كَثُر الخبث في النَّاس، وفشت فيهم المعاصي. والله أعلم.
