Ashrat al-Saah - al-WabilYusuf al-Wabil

This was narrated by Muslim. In another version, after the words, “There was once water here,” he adds: “Then they will continue until they reach Mount al-Khamr (1), which is the mountain of Jerusalem. They will say, ‘We have killed those on earth; come, let us now kill those in heaven.’ They will shoot their arrows (2) toward heaven, and Allah will return their arrows to them stained with blood” (3).

3—In the hadith of Hudhayfa ibn Asīd (may Allah be pleased with him) concerning the signs of the Hour, he listed among them: “Gog and Magog” (4).

4—Abdullah ibn Masūd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: On the night when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was taken on the Night Journey, he met Abraham, Moses, and Jesus (peace be upon them), and they discussed the Hour … until he said: “They then turned the discussion over to Jesus. (He mentioned the killing of the Antichrist and then continued:) Then the people will return to their lands, where Gog and Magog will confront them, surging down from every elevation. They will pass by no body of water without drinking it dry, and nothing without laying it waste. The people will cry out to me, so I shall supplicate Allah, and He will cause them to die. The earth will then become putrid from their stench. The people will cry out to me again, so I shall supplicate Allah, and He will send down water from the sky, which will carry them away,

(1) *Jabal al-Khamar* (Mount al-Khamar): *al-Khamar* is spelled with the letter *khā*, with an *a*-vowel on the *mīm*. It means dense, intertwined vegetation that conceals anyone within it. The hadith itself explains that it is a mountain in Jerusalem. See: *Sharh al-Nawawī li-Muslim* (18/71). (2) *Al-nushshāb* means arrows; its singular is *nushshāba*. See: *Lisān al-Arab* (1/757). (3) *Sahīh Muslim*, chapter “The Account of the Dajjāl” (18/70–71, with *Sharh al-Nawawī*). (4) *Sahīh Muslim*, Book of Tribulations and Portents of the Hour (18/27, with *Sharh al-Nawawī*).
