Among what is stated in these reports is that they are of three kinds:

One kind have bodies like cedars, which are very large trees.
One kind measure four cubits by four cubits.
One kind spread one ear beneath themselves and cover themselves with the other.

It is also reported that they are one or two handspans tall, with the tallest among them measuring three handspans (1).

Authentic reports, however, indicate that they are powerful men whom no one has the strength to fight. It is therefore unlikely that any of them would be only one or two handspans tall.

In the hadith of al-Nawwās ibn Samān, Allah Most High reveals to Jesus, peace be upon him, that Gog and Magog have emerged and that no one will have the power to fight them. He commands him to lead the believers away from their path, saying: “Shelter My servants on Mount Tūr.”

Evidence for the Emergence of Gog and Magog:

The emergence of Gog and Magog at the end of time is one of the signs of the Hour

Ibn Kathīr rejected these descriptions, stating that whoever claims these are their characteristics “has ventured to assert something of which he has no knowledge” and that this is “something for which there is no evidence.” *Al-Nihāya: al-Fitan wa-l-Malāhim* (1/153). Al-Haythamī cited a hadith narrated by Hudhayfa from the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—describing Gog and Magog as possessing some of these characteristics. He noted that al-Tabarānī narrated it in *al-Awsat* and that its chain of transmission includes Yahyā ibn Saīd al-Attār, who is weak. Ibn Hajar described him as “very weak.” See *Majma al-Zawāid* (8/6) and *Fath al-Bārī* (13/106).

ومما جاء في لهذه الآثار أنّهم ثلاثة أصناف: ١ - صنف أجسادهم كالأرْز، وهو شجر كبار جدًّا. ٢ - وصنف أربعة أذرع في أربعة أذرع. ٣ - وصنف يفترشون آذانهم ويلتحفون بالأخرى. وجاء أيضًا أن طولهم شبر وشبرين، وأطولهم ثلاثة أشبار (١). والذي تدل عليه الروايات الصحيحة أنّهم رجالٌ أقوياء، لا طاقة لأحد بقتالهم، ويبعد أن يكون طول أحدهم شبر وشبرين. ففي حديث النواس بن سمعان أن الله تعالى يوحي إلى عيسى ﵇ بخروج يأجوج ومأجوج، وأنّه لا يُدان لأحد بقتالهم، ويأمره بإبعاد المؤمنين من طريقهم، فيقول لهم: "حرز عبادي إلى الطور". كما سيأتي ذكر ذلك في الكلام على خروجهم بإذن الله تعالى ... * أدلَّة خروج يأجوج ومأجوج: خروج يأجوج ومأجوج في آخر الزّمان علامة من علامات السّاعة
