Evidence that they are descendants of Adam, peace be upon him, is found in the report narrated by al-Bukhārī from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Allah, Exalted is He, will say, ‘O Adam!’ He will reply, ‘I am at Your service and obedient to Your command, and all good is in Your hands.’ He will say, ‘Bring forth those destined for the Fire.’ Adam will ask, ‘Who are those destined for the Fire?’ He will answer, ‘Nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand.’ At that moment, the young will turn gray, every pregnant woman will miscarry, and you will see people as though they were drunk, though they will not be drunk; rather, Allah’s punishment is severe.”
They asked, “Which of us will be that one?” He replied, “Rejoice! For every one of you, there will be a thousand from Gog and Magog.” (1)
It is also reported from ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Gog and Magog are descendants of Adam. If they were unleashed upon humanity, they would ruin their livelihoods. Not one of them will die without leaving behind a thousand or more descendants.” (2)
