Ibn Hajar, may Allah have mercy on him, noted that the question of why the Dajjāl is not mentioned in the Quran still remains, since Allah Most High mentioned Gog and Magog in the Quran, and their trial is comparable to that of the Dajjāl (1).
That said, the first answer is perhaps the most plausible—and Allah knows best. Accordingly, the Dajjāl is mentioned implicitly in certain verses, while the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, undertook to explain what was stated there only in general terms.
- The Destruction of the Dajjāl:
The Dajjāl will be slain at the hands of the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, peace be upon him, as indicated by the authentic hadiths. The Dajjāl will appear throughout the earth except Mecca and Medina. His followers will multiply, his trial will become widespread, and only a few believers will escape it. At that time, Jesus son of Mary, peace be upon him, will descend at the eastern minaret in Damascus. The believing servants of Allah will gather around him, and he will lead them toward the false messiah, the Dajjāl. When Jesus descends, the Dajjāl will be heading toward Jerusalem. Jesus will catch up with him at the gate of (Ludd) (2). When the Dajjāl sees him, he will melt as salt melts. Jesus, peace be upon him, will say to him, “I have a blow in store for you that you will not escape.” Jesus will overtake him and kill him with his spear. The Dajjāl’s followers will flee, and the believers will pursue and kill them, until the trees and stones say, “O Muslim! O servant of Allah! There is a Jew behind me; come and kill him!”—except for the thorny gharqad tree, for it is one of the trees of the Jews (3).
