Qadi Iyād also adopted this answer (1).

  1. Ibn Hajar mentioned a third answer: Ibn Sayyād did not explicitly claim prophethood; rather, he merely gave the impression that he claimed to have been sent as a messenger. Claiming to have been sent does not necessarily entail a claim to prophethood. Allah Most High says, “Have you not seen that We have sent the devils against the disbelievers?” [Maryam: 83] (2).
  • Where the Dajjāl Will Emerge:

The Dajjāl will emerge from the east—from Khurāsān (3), from the Jewish quarter of Isfahān (4). He will then traverse the earth, entering every town except Mecca and Medina. He will be unable to enter either of them, for the angels guard them.

In the previously cited hadith of Fātima bint Qays, the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said concerning the Dajjāl: “Indeed, he is in the Syrian Sea or the Yemeni Sea. No! Rather, he is toward the east—toward

(3) Khurāsān: a vast region in the east comprising several cities, including Nishāpūr, Herāt, Marw, Balkh, and the cities lying between them on this side of the Jayhūn River. See *Mujam al-Buldān*, 2:350. (4) Isfahan: Yāqūt said: “The city of Isfahan lies at the site known as Jayy, now called Shahristān and al-Madīna. When Nebuchadnezzar marched forth, captured Jerusalem, and took its inhabitants captive, he brought its Jews with him and settled them in Isfahan. They built themselves a quarter on the outskirts of Jayy, settled there, and it was named al-Yahūdiyya … Thus, the city of Isfahan today is al-Yahūdiyya.” *Mujam al-Buldān*, 1:208.
