Some of the hadiths in the two Sahih collections concerning the Mahdī:

1—Abū Hurayra, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “How will you be when the son of Mary descends among you while your imam is from among you?!” (1).

2—Jābir ibn Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with them both, reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say: “A group from my nation will continue fighting for the truth, prevailing until the Day of Resurrection.” He said: “Then Jesus son of Mary, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, will descend, and their leader will say, ‘Come and lead us in prayer.’ He will reply, ‘No. Some of you are leaders over others, as an honor from Allah to this nation.’” (2).

3—Jābir ibn Abdullah reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “Near the end of my nation’s time, there will be a caliph who will distribute wealth by the handful without counting it.”

Al-Jurayrī (3)—one of the hadith’s narrators—said: “I asked Abū Nadra (4) and Abū

May Allah have mercy on him. See *Tahdhīb al-Tahdhīb*, 4:5–7. (4) He is al-Mundhir ibn Mālik ibn Qita al-Abdī al-Basrī. He was a reliable narrator who transmitted from several Companions. He died in 108 AH. May Allah have mercy on him. See *Tahdhīb al-Tahdhīb*, 10:302–303.

* بعض ما في الصحيحين من الأحاديث فيما يتعلّق بالمهدي: ١ - عن أبي هريرة ﵁؛ قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "كيف أنتُم إذا نزل ابن مريم فيكم، وإمامُكم منكم؟! " (١). ٢ - وعن جابر بن عبد الله ﵄؛ قال: سمعتُ رسول الله ﷺ يقول: "لا تزال طائفةٌ من أُمَّتي يقاتلون على الحق ظاهرين إلى يوم القيامة". قال: "فينزل عيسى بن مريم ﷺ، فيقول أميرُهم: تعالَ صلّ لنا. فيقول: لا، إن بعضَكُم على بعض إمراء؛ تكرمة الله هذه الأمة" (٢). ٣ - وعن جابر بن عبد الله؛ قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "يكون في آخر أُمَّتي خليفة يحثي المال حثيًا لا يعدُّه عدد". قال الجريري (٣) - أحد رواة الحديث-: "قلتُ لأبي نضرة (٤) وأبي
