8—Abdullah ibn Masūd, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “The world will not pass away—or come to an end—until a man from my household rules over the Arabs. His name will match mine.” (1). In another narration: “His name will match mine, and his father’s name will match my father’s.” (2).
=64), and he marked it as weak, as did al-Manāwī in *Fayd al-Qadīr*, 6:17.
Al-Albānī said: “Authentic.” See *Sahīh al-Jāmi al-Saghīr*, 5:219, hadith no. 5796.
Abd al-Alīm said in his treatise: “Its chain of transmission is *hasan* (good) on account of its corroborating reports,” p. 241.
(1) *Musnad Ahmad*, 5:199, hadith no. 3573, ed. Ahmad Shākir, who said: “Its chain of transmission is authentic”; al-Tirmidhī, 6:485, who said: “This is a *hasan sahīh* (good and authentic) hadith”; and *Sunan Abī Dāwūd*, 11:371.

Al-Albānī said: “Authentic.” *Sahīh al-Jāmi al-Saghīr*, 5:70–71, hadith no. 5180.

Both reports pass through Āsim ibn Abī al-Najūd, who was trustworthy and whose hadith was *hasan*. Ahmad ibn Hanbal said of him: “He was a righteous man, and I prefer his recitation.” Abū Hātim said: “In my estimation, he ranks among the truthful. His hadith is acceptable, though his memory was not of that high standard.” Al-Aqīlī said: “His only fault was his poor memory.” Al-Dāraqutnī said: “There was some weakness in his memory.” Al-Dhahabī said: “He was a firmly established authority in Quranic recitation, though in hadith he fell short of that rank. He was truthful but made mistakes, and his hadith is *hasan*.” He also said: “Ahmad and Abū Zura said: ‘He is trustworthy.’” He further said: “The two Shaykhs narrated from him, but only in conjunction with others, not as an independent principal authority.” Ibn Hajar said: “He was truthful but made errors, and he was an authority in Quranic recitation.”
