hypocrisy” [al-Tawbah: 101], and a hypocrite is unquestionably impure (1).

As for the complete departure of the people from Medina, that will occur near the end of time, shortly before the Hour. Abū Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) say, “You will leave Medina in the finest state it has ever been, and none will frequent it except wild creatures—meaning beasts of prey and birds. The last people to be gathered will be two shepherds from Muzayna. They will head toward Medina, calling to their sheep, but will find it deserted. When they reach Thaniyyat al-Wadā, they will fall upon their faces” (2).

Al-Bukhārī narrated it.

Imam Mālik also narrated from Abū Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, “You will surely leave Medina in the finest state it has ever been, until a dog or wolf enters and urinates (3) against one of the mosque’s pillars or upon the pulpit.” They asked, “Messenger of Allah, for whom will the fruits be at that time?” He replied, “For the wild creatures: the birds and beasts of prey” (4).
