Ashrat al-Saah - al-WabilYusuf al-Wabil

who will tell you what has passed and what will happen after your time.” The man was a Jew. He then went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) affirmed his account. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) then said, “This is one of the signs that will precede the Hour. The time is near when a man will leave and, before he returns, his sandals and whip will tell him what his family have done in his absence.” Related by Imam Ahmad (1).

In another narration of his from Abū Sa'īd al-Khudrī (and he recounted the story until he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said): “He has spoken the truth. By Him in Whose hand is my soul, the Hour will not come until wild beasts speak to human beings, the tip of a man’s whip and the strap of his sandal speak to him, and his thigh tells him what his family have done in his absence” (2).

50 — Wishing for Death Because of Severe Affliction

Abū Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “The Hour will not come until a man passes by another man’s grave and says, ‘If only I were in his place!’” (3).

(1) *Musnad Ahmad* (15/202–203, hadith no. 8049), edited and annotated by Ahmad Shākir, who said: “Its chain of transmission is authentic.” (2) *Musnad Ahmad* (3/83–84), with *Muntakhab Kanz al-'Ummāl* in the margins. Al-Albānī said: “This chain of transmission is authentic. Its narrators are trustworthy narrators of Muslim, except for al-Qāsim here (one of the hadith’s narrators); he is unanimously regarded as trustworthy, and Muslim cited him in the Introduction.” See: *Silsilat al-Ahādīth al-Sahīha* (vol. 1, p. 31, hadith no. 122). Al-Tirmidhī also narrated it in the Chapters on Tribulations, under “Reports Concerning the Speech of Wild Beasts” (6/409). He said: “This is a *hasan sahih* (good and authentic) hadith. We know it only through the narration of al-Qāsim ibn al-Fadl. Al-Qāsim ibn al-Fadl is considered trustworthy and reliable by hadith scholars; Yahyā ibn Sa'īd and 'Abd al-Rahmān ibn Mahdī declared him trustworthy.” (3) *Sahih al-Bukhārī*, Book of Tribulations (13/81–82, with *Fath al-Bārī*); and *Sahih Muslim*, Book of Tribulations and Portents of the Hour (18/34, with al-Nawawī’s commentary).
