“This world will not pass away until it belongs to an ignoble man (1), the son of an ignoble man” (2).
That is, until its comforts, pleasures, and prestige belong to him (3).
In another narration recorded by Imam Ahmad, Hudhayfa ibn al-Yamān (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “The Hour will not come until the person who fares best in this world is an ignoble man, the son of an ignoble man” (4).
In the two Sahih collections, Hudhayfa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), concerning the withdrawal of trustworthiness: “Until it is said of a man, ‘How steadfast he is! How refined he is! How intelligent he is!’ Yet there is not
(1) *Lakʿ*: Among the Arabs, this word originally meant “slave.” It later came to denote foolishness and disparagement, referring to an ignoble person. It may also be applied to a child; when applied to an adult, it means someone immature in knowledge and reason. See *al-Nihāya fī Gharīb al-Hadīth* (4/268).
(2) *Musnad al-Imām Ahmad* (16/284, with the commentary and notes of Ahmad Shākir). He stated: “Al-Suyūtī included it in *al-Jāmi al-Saghīr* and marked it as a hasan hadith.” See *al-Jāmi al-Saghīr* (2/200), with al-Munāwī’s *Kunuz al-Haqā’iq* printed in the margin.
Al-Haythamī stated: “Ahmad’s narrators are narrators of *al-Sahīh*, apart from Kāmil ibn al-Alā, who is trustworthy.” *Majma al-Zawā’id* (7/220).
Ibn Kathīr stated: “Its chain of transmission is good and strong.” *al-Nihāya: al-Fitan wa-al-Malāhim* (1/181), edited by Dr. Tāhā Zaynī.
Al-Albānī authenticated it in *Sahīh al-Jāmi al-Saghīr* (6/142), hadith no. 7149.

(4) *Musnad al-Imām Ahmad* (5/389), with *Muntakhab Kanz al-Ummāl* printed in the margin. Al-Suyūtī marked it as sahih in *al-Jāmi al-Saghīr* (2/202), with al-Munāwī’s *Kunuz al-Haqā’iq* printed in the margin.
Al-Albānī stated: “Sahih.” See *Sahīh al-Jāmi al-Saghīr* (6/177), hadith no. 7308.
