eyes; their faces are like leather-covered shields, and their footwear is made of hair.” (1)
When discussing the fighting against the Turks, their characteristics as described in the hadiths concerning that conflict were mentioned. Here, this hadith mentions fighting Khūz and Kirmān. Neither is a Turkic land; rather, both are lands of the non-Arabs. Nevertheless, they are described in the same terms as the Turks.
Ibn Hajar said: “This may be answered by noting that this hadith is distinct from the hadith concerning the fighting against the Turks. Taken together, the two warn of the emergence of both groups.” (2)
I say: This is further supported by the report of Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him), who related that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will soon fill your hands with non-Arabs. They will then become lions who do not flee: they will kill your fighting men and consume your spoils.” (3)
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) also related that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Non-Arabs will soon become numerous among you—lions who do not flee. They will kill your fighting men and consume your spoils.” (4)
