As for races run with camels, they fall under the “hoof” mentioned in the ḥadith of Abū Hurayrah. The majority of jurists restrict this ruling exclusively to camels (1).
Some Shāfiʿīs (2) permitted racing on an elephant for prize money, saying: “It, too, has a hoof, so it is included in the ḥadith.”
The majority view, however, is stronger for the reasons stated earlier, and therefore the four Imams do not allot any share of booty to an elephant (3). Al-Qāḍī Abū Yaʿlā, a Hanbalī authority, diverged from them, saying: “An elephant is given the share of a hybrid mount” (4).
Accordingly, on the two narrations concerning it, the question becomes: does it receive one share or two? (5)

وأما المسابقة بين الإبل:
فهي الخف المذكور في حديث أبي هريرة.
والجمهور على اختصاصها بالبعير (١).
وجوَّز بعض الشافعيَّة (٢) المسابقة على الفيل بالجُعل.
قالوا: لأنه ذو خُفٍّ، فيدخل في الحديث.
وقول الجمهور أصح؛ لما تقدَّم، ولذلك لا يُسْهَم للفيل عند الأئمة الأربعة (٣)، وشذَّ القاضي أبو يعلى من أصحاب أحمد، فقال: "يُسْهَم للفيل سهم الهَجِيْن" (٤)
فيكون على الروايتين فيه: هل له سهم أو سهمان؟ (٥)
