So may Allah the Exalted, together with His angels, His prophets and messengers, and the righteous among His creation, send blessings upon him, for he acquainted us with Allah Most High, His names and attributes, proclaimed His oneness, and summoned to Him. May Allah grant him al-wasīlah (the station of nearness) and al-faḍīlah (the surpassing virtue), and raise him to the Praiseworthy Station He promised him in the Furqan (1). Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon him.
To proceed: Allah the Exalted has established the religion of Islam through evidence and proof, and through the sword and the spear; the two are full brothers in securing its victory. Each is a champion (2) whose work is not complete without courage of heart and firmness of spirit. This noble station and lofty rank are forbidden to every lowly coward, just as joy and delight are denied him; instead, his heart is filled with cares, sorrows, fears, and griefs. He imagines every shout is directed at him and every calamity is making for him, so his heart is choked with anxiety (3) because of such thoughts and suppositions.
