11 – Editorial Methodology:
-
Record all significant variants after collating the text with the two manuscript copies and the printed Khānajī edition.
-
Insert the sigla of the two manuscripts—the Ẓāhiriyya copy (Ẓ) and the Ḥāʾil copy (Ḥ)—directly into the body of the text, enclosed in square brackets, and mark any marginal notes added by the scribe of the Ẓāhiriyya copy with an asterisk (*).
-
Trace every legal issue mentioned in the text back to its sources in the works of the four Sunni schools of law.
-
Clarify unfamiliar words by consulting the classical lexicons.
-
Verify, as far as possible, the quotations cited by the author.
-
Identify every prophetic tradition and report, and assess its authenticity.
-
Compile scholarly indices, including both verbal indices and detailed topical indices.
