First: the archer lets his left hand sink on the grip; when it sinks, the right hand rises above it, the arrow meets an empty space in the grasp and flies wide.
Second: he raises his right hand toward his ear while lowering the left, so the arrow strikes the ground not far in front of him.
The remedy for this defect is as follows. If it stems from the left hand, let him raise that hand slightly on the handle, leaving in the grip a space about the breadth of one finger.⦗1⦘ If it comes from the right hand, the treatment is to stand forty cubits or more away, remain upright, plant the ʿallāqah in the ground, shoot at it, and keep shooting until the fault disappears.⦗2⦘
Section: The mishap of the bow-tip hitting the ground at the moment of release
This flaw befalls an archer who shoots while seated for four reasons:

He leans too far out of his bow and puts most of his body weight forward.

His sitting posture is poor: he rests on his left leg and neglects to support himself on the right.

The bow is too powerful for him, so he resorts to his body to draw it and thereby presses it farther downward than he sends the arrow.⦗3⦘
