with his entire palm (1), so that his index finger comes to rest against the upright of the siyah and is cut. If the injury originates in his fingers, he should brace the bow with the whole of his palm, wrap a strip of cloth around them, and bear the weight on that cloth with his palm.

Section: The mishap of the string striking the archer’s ear or beard and its remedy
This mishap has several causes:

  1. A slack release.
  2. The siyah of the bow tilting toward the arrow side (2).
  3. The lower limb of the bow projecting farther than it should.
  4. His fiddling with his head when his hand reaches his shoulder (3).

If he avoids these faults, the string will not touch him; but if the string still presses against him, he should move his face slightly away from it.

As for the string brushing his beard (4), the cause is either that he drops his head—its remedy is to raise it—or that the siyah is leaning; the remedy is to straighten it.
