Abu al-Qasim al-Tabarani writes in his book The Merit of Archery:
“Chapter (1): The Virtue of Walking Between the Two Targets.” He then relates, with his chain of transmission, a report traced back to the Prophet through Abu Dharr: “Whoever walks between the two targets receives a good deed for every step he takes.”
Ibrahim al-Taymi said on the authority of his father: “I saw Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman running between the two butts in al-Mada’in, wearing only a shirt.”
Bilal ibn Saʿd said: “I encountered people who would sprint between the targets, laughing with one another; but when night came they were like monks.”
ʿUqbah ibn ʿAmir used to run between the two targets although he was an old man.
A raised report states: “The space between the two targets is a meadow from the meadows of Paradise.” ⦗2⦘
If they choose to set up only one target, that is likewise permissible, for the intended benefit is still achieved.
