Mujāhid said, “I saw Ibn ʿUmar sprinting between the two targets, saying, ‘I am up to it.’” (2)
We have already noted that ʿUqbah b. ʿĀmir would run between the two targets even though he was an old man. (3)

If it is asked, “Which is superior: horseback riding or shooting arrows at a target—or archery in general? And which of the two competitions is more meritorious?” (4)
the scholars have differed on the matter:
• One group favored horseback riding. Mālik said, “A horse race is dearer to me than a contest of archery,” as cited by Abū ʿUmar.

وقال مجاهد: "رأيتُ ابن عمر يشتدُّ بين الهدفين، ويقول: أنا بها" (٢).
وتقدَّم أن عقبة بن عامر كان يشتدُّ بين الغرضين وهو شيخٌ كبيرٌ (٣).
فصلٌ
فإن قيل: فأيُّها أفضل: ركوب الخيل أو رمي السِّهام في الغرض أو مطلقًا؟ وأيُّ السَّبَقين أفضل؟ (٤).
قيل: قد اختُلِف في ذلك:
* فرجَّحت طائفة ركوب الخيل.
قال مالك: "سبق الخيل أحبُّ إليَّ من سبق الرَّمي"، ذكره أبو عمر
