Futyā fī Ṣīghat al-ḤamdIbn al-Qayyim

In the Musnad of Imam Ahmad, Mu‘ādh ibn Anas reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“Whoever eats food and says, ‘Praise be to Allah, who has fed me this and provided it for me without any power or strength on my part,’ Allah will forgive his past sins. Whoever puts on a garment and says, ‘Praise be to Allah, who has clothed me with this and provided it for me without any power or strength on my part,’ Allah will forgive his past sins” (1).

In al-Tirmidhī’s Jāmi‘, ‘Alī (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

The supplication the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made most often at the places of standing on the Day of ‘Arafah was:

“O Allah, to You belongs all praise, as we say, and we speak what is good. O Allah, for You are my prayer, my sacrifice, my life and my death. To You is my return (2), and to You, my Lord, belongs what I leave behind (3). O Allah, I seek refuge in You from (4) the punishment of the grave, the whisperings within the heart, and disarray in my affairs. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of what the wind brings” (5).

(1) For its source references, see p. 20. (2) The manuscript reads ma’ālī (my ultimate destination); the correction follows the original sources. (3) Al-Munāwī said: “‘Turāthī’ (my legacy), spelled with tā’ and thā’, means what a person leaves behind for his heirs. Its tā’ replaces a wāw. Through this, the Chosen One (peace and blessings be upon him) explained that his property is not inherited: what others leave to their heirs, he leaves as charity for Allah, glorified be He. The hadith states: ‘We prophets leave no inheritance; whatever we leave behind is charity.’” Fayd al-Qadīr, 2/132. (4) The word min (from) appears twice in the manuscript.
