Hurayrah, who narrated from him (1), peace and blessings be upon him, that he said:
“‘Praise be to Allah, who has spared me what He has afflicted you with and greatly favored me over many of those He has created’—that affliction will not (2) befall him.” Al-Tirmidhī said: “This is a sound hadith” (3).
Something similar is narrated (4) from ‘Umar (5).
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, also prescribed that anyone rising from a gathering should say what Abū Hurayrah narrated from him, peace and blessings be upon him:
“Whoever sits in a gathering where he engages in much idle talk, then says before rising from that gathering: ‘Glory and praise be to You, O Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You’;
