Tenth Note
In the footnote to page 112 the author, quoting from Badaʾiʿ al-Fawaʾid by Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him), writes: “Ibn al-Athram transmitted from him,” and again, “Ibn al-Athram said….” End quote. In Badaʾiʿ al-Fawaʾid itself, however, the phrasing is: “Ibn Athram said,” without the definite article al-.
What seems clear to me—and Allah knows best—is that an error slipped into this name, either in print or through an earlier copyist. I have found no companion of Imām Ahmad called Ibn al-Athram or Ibn Athram. Rather, there is al-Athram, without “Ibn,” which is the sobriquet of Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. Hāniʾ al-Ṭāʾī, and there is also Aḥmad b. Aṣram—with a ṣād, not a thāʾ.
Hence the person cited here is most likely either al-Athram, without “Ibn,” or Ibn Aṣram, with the ṣād mistakenly changed to a thāʾ. Allah knows best.
