Ninth Note
The author states on page 112: “He would occasionally raise his hands with this takbīr”—that is, when rising from prostration. He then adds in the footnote: “And concerning raising them here and at every takbīr, Ahmad said so.” End quote.
A similar wording appears on page 115 and in its footnote, and the plain sense of the author’s remarks in both places is that this is Ibn Ahmad’s view and that he holds no other.
However, as was pointed out in the seventh note, this is the weakest of the reports ascribed to Imām Ahmad. The sound position from him is that the hands are to be raised in only three places: when commencing the prayer, when bowing, and when rising from bowing.
This is the position transmitted by al-Tirmidhī from Ahmad, who reported nothing else from him. Abū Dāwūd and Hanbal likewise conveyed this very wording, contrary to what Shaykh al-Albānī maintained in the two passages under discussion. All of this has already been detailed under the seventh note, to which the reader may refer.
