—for to err is human.
We ask Allah to grant us, and him, and all Muslims success in the words and deeds that He loves and approves, and to lead us all along the path of the righteous predecessors, the Companions and those who followed them in excellence. Truly, my Lord is All-Hearing of prayer, near and responsive.
Fourth Notice
Fourth: The author writes on page 82, “In the funeral prayer, the Sunnah is to recite the Opening Chapter of the Book and a surah.” He then notes in a footnote that this was reported by al-Bukhari, Abu Dawud and al-Nasa’i.
This is misleading, for the narrations of al-Bukhari and Abu Dawud contain no mention of a surah; that detail appears only in one of the two versions recorded by al-Nasa’i, namely the report he transmits from al-Haytham ibn Ayyub who said: “Ibrahim—that is, Ibn Saʿd—narrated to us; he said: My father narrated to us, from Talha ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAwf…”
