His very existence is identical with all existent things, and one of them even proclaims:
“Every utterance in the universe is His speech—
prose and verse are all the same to us.” (1)
Ibn al-Qayyim, pointing to this inevitable conclusion, says:
Has proof not been firmly established that the servants’ deeds
are the creation of the All-Merciful Lord,
From a thousand avenues—or near a thousand—
as any specialist in this field can enumerate?
Then every word voiced by this creation
would be identical with His speech, the Sublime Sovereign,
For you relate His speech to Him only by way of creation,
like the House of Allah, erected upon its pillars.
The inevitable consequence of your doctrine
has already been stated outright by the unionists,*
Who, wary of contradicting themselves when you contradict yourselves,
merely pursued it to its end—an ultimate act of unbelief. (2)
These are but some of the inescapable corollaries that confront anyone who nullifies and denies this attribute. In truth, they bring into sharp relief the position of the early generations (salaf) on this matter—a position drawn from the Book of Allah, the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ, the statements of the Companions and those who followed them with excellence, and one that is further supported by clear reason in full agreement with sound transmitted evidence. It is the creed that every Muslim must hold and by which he worships his Lord, Mighty and Majestic.
