by Sufyān al-Thawrī, the eminent imam, on the authority of Abū al-Zinād, who likewise narrated it (1).
The two authors of the Sahihs have also transmitted a portion of this report, together with the narration of Abū Hurayrah and the well-known lengthy narration of Abū Saʿīd (2). In that wording it states:
“He continues to implore Allah until Allah laughs at him (3); and when Allah laughs at him, He says: Enter (4) Paradise.” (5)
It was likewise related by the most knowledgeable of the tābiʿīn (Successors) according to the unanimous agreement of the Muslims, Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib (6), from
- Hadith 191 is narrated by Sufyan from Abu al-Zinad, from al-A‘raj, from Abu Hurayra, with some additional phrases.
(1) The reference to Sufyan’s version was mentioned earlier in the hadith authentication (takhrīj).
(2) This is the long hadith of vision (ruʾyā) and intercession (shafā‘a). In reality it appears in both the Musnad of Abu Hurayra and that of Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudrī, may Allah be pleased with them. It is established at its conclusion that Abu Sa‘īd was sitting with Abu Hurayra and did not alter any of his wording until the phrase “This is for you and its like with him.” Abu Sa‘īd then said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, say: ‘This is for you and ten times its like.’” Abu Hurayra added, “I preserved ‘its like with him.’”

(3) In the original manuscript (S) it reads “from him,” which is a copyist’s error. The correct reading, as attested by the printed edition (T) and the takhrīj sources, omits this phrase.
(4) In both S and T the text reads: “He said to him: ‘Enter.’”
(5) This wording is narrated by Muslim from al-Zuhri, who said: “Sa‘īd ibn al-Musayyib and ‘Ata’ ibn Yazīd al-Laythī informed me that Abu Hurayra told them: The people said to the Prophet, peace be upon him, ‘O Messenger of Allah, will we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?’”

(6) He is Abu Muḥammad Sa‘īd ibn al-Musayyib ibn Ḥazn ibn Abī Wahb al-Qurāḍī al-Makhzūmī, a leading scholar of Medina and foremost among the ṭābi‘īn of his time. He died in 94 AH. Qatāda said: “I never saw anyone more knowledgeable of the lawful (ḥalāl) and the unlawful (ḥarām) than him.”

(٢) وهو حديث الرؤية والشفاعة الطويل، وهو في حقيقته من مسند أبي هريرة وأبي سعيد الخدري - رضي الله عنهما - معًا، لأنه ثبت في آخره أن أبا سعيد جالس مع أبي هريرة ولا يغير عليه شيئًا من حديثه، حتى انتهى إلى قوله (هذا لك ومثله معه) فقال أبو سعيد: سمعت رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - يقول: "هذا لك وعشرة أمثاله" قال أبو هريرة: حفظت "مثله معه".

(٦) هو: أبو محمد سعيد بن المسيب بن حزن بن أبي وهب القرضي المخزومي. عالم المدينة وسيد التابعين في زمانه. توفي سنة ٩٤ هـ.
يقول قتادة: ما رأيت أحدًا قط أعلم بالحلال والحرام منه.
