a child.’ (88) You have indeed brought forth something monstrous, (89) at which the heavens are almost rent asunder, the earth split apart, and the mountains tumble down in ruin, (90) for they have attributed a child to the Most Merciful. (91) It is not befitting for the Most Merciful to take a child. (92) There is none in the heavens and the earth but will come to the Most Merciful as a servant. (93) He has counted them and numbered them precisely; (94) each one of them will come to Him on the Day of Resurrection alone. (1)
In another passage He says: ‘They have certainly disbelieved who say, “Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary.” Say: “Who then can avail anything against Allah if He wills to destroy the Messiah, son of Mary, his mother, and everyone on earth?”’ (2)
He, Exalted is He, also says: ‘They have certainly disbelieved who say, “Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary.” Yet the Messiah said, “O Children of Israel, worship Allah—my Lord and your Lord. Whoever associates anything with Allah, Allah has indeed forbidden Paradise to him, and his abode will be the Fire; the wrongdoers will have no helpers.” (72) They have certainly disbelieved who say, “Allah is one of three,” while there is no deity except the One God. If they do not desist from what they say, a painful punishment will befall those of them who disbelieve.’ (3) …and so on.
And He says: ‘O People of the Scripture, do not go to excess in your religion and do not say of Allah anything but the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, His word that He cast to Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and do not say, “Three.” Cease—that is better for you. Allah is only one God; far exalted is He above having a child. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth, and Allah suffices as a guardian. (171) The Messiah would never disdain to be a servant of Allah, nor would the angels who are near.’ (4) …and so forth.
