(6) He was Abū Muḥammad ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad ibn Saʿīd ibn Ḥazm al-Andalusī al-Qurṭubī al-Ẓāhirī. Ibn Kathīr (may Allah have mercy on him) says: “The most astonishing thing about him was that, despite being a ẓāhirī, he was perplexed in jurisprudential branches, refusing all analogical reasoning (qiyās), whether clear or otherwise. This stance, which he adopted against the scholars, led him to introduce serious errors in his reasoning and methodology. Yet he remained one of the most original thinkers in the principles (usūl), the verses on divine attributes, and the hadiths of attributes….” He died in 456 AH.
